Margaret "Peggy" J. Elder

Margaret “Peggy” J. Elder, 81, of Wamego, KS, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2013, at Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center, Wamego, Kansas. Peggy was born in Wamego, Kansas, on December 15, 1931. She was the youngest daughter of Robert K. and Lorene Ince. She attended grade school and high school in Wamego, graduating from Wamego High School in 1949. On April 23, 1950, Tom Elder and Peggy Ince were married at the First United Methodist Church, Wamego, where they made their home. He preceded her in death in 2011. Peggy’s employment through the years included the Chevrolet dealership in Wamego, the Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services in Manhattan, and Kansas State University where she worked for approximately 20 years before retiring. Peggy was actively involved with the First United Methodist Church over the years, including serving in the church choir and the church bell choir. She loved to sing and was a member of the Sweet Adelines for a number of years. Peggy also belonged to several local clubs over the years, including Portia Club. Peggy is survived by her sons: Jeff and his wife, Erika of Wamego and Tim, of Shawnee, KS; her daughter: Cindy Tatum, of Dallas, TX; seven grandchildren: Bridget, Jordan, Megan, Ryan, Cadie, Brett and Shelby; and four great-grandchildren: Scarlett, Evan, Laila, and Blaze. Peggy was also predeceased in death by her oldest son, John Robert (Rob) Elder, and her siblings, Robert Ince, Ray Ince, Mildred Brown, Lucille Edwards, Roberta Stroman, and Virginia Hundley. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. The family will greet friends during a time of visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., prior to funeral services. Burial will follow in Wamego City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Wamego, or the Columbian Theatre Foundation, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, 66547.
