Donald Dean Peterson

Donald Dean Peterson, 81, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Good Shepherd Hospice in Manhattan following a long illness. Don was born November 20, 1934 in Lindsborg, KS, the son of Ernest E. and Ruby H. (Nelson) Peterson. He attended Lindsborg schools and one year at Bethany College before transferring to Kansas State University and graduating in 1957 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Following college, Don served in the U.S. Army. After his military service, he went to work in San Diego, CA, working for General Dynamics for several years, before moving to Kansas City. He spent the majority of his career there, working for Bendix Corp., and Allied Signal which then became Honeywell, until his retirement. Don was very proud of his work, which involved important projects with our country’s Department of Defense. Don was married to Glenda Lea Kissick in 1957 and they later divorced. He then married Marilyn Loch, who preceded him in death, and later remarried Glenda Peterson who preceded him in death on July 5, 2015. Don especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening throughout his life. Time with his family and friends was also important to him. He is survived by his three sons: Randy Peterson, Wamego, KS, Monty Peterson, St. George, KS, Joseph Peterson, Portland, OR; one brother, Eldon Peterson of Ohio; one sister, Betty Ludwig, Leavenworth, KS; 5 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Jane Peterson. Funeral services for Mr. Peterson will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 6th, at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. The family will greet friends during a visitation prior to services beginning at 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Wamego City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Good Shepherd Hospice and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
