Albert Ernest "Al" Spencer, 91, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Wellsprings of Westmoreland.

Al was born April 29, 1934, in Emporia, Kansas, the son of Walter J. and Ernestine Naomi (Mosher) Spencer. He attended grade school and graduated in 1952 from Emporia High School. He began his college degree at Kansas State University but interrupted his education in 1957 to serve in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. Al was an Artillery Operations and Intelligence Specialist clerk. Following his military service, he returned to K-State and completed his degree in Agriculture.

Al spent most of his working career as a County Extension Agent for Atchison, Doniphan, Miami and Pottawatomie Counties. He retired from Government service in 1990. In his early years, Al worked with his father on the family dairy farm. After his retirement, he worked part time for several local farms and as a meter reader for the rural electric company.

In high school, Al was a member of 4-H and FFA. Later he was a member of the National Association of County Ag Agents, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and a local square dance club. He was a long-time and active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton. He served as an Elder and Board Member as well as various other church offices. After moving to Wamego, he was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. In both Westmoreland and Wamego, Al was a regular member of the local coffee group. He loved traveling with his family and always enjoyed being involved with his children and grandchildren and their many activities.

Al married Carol Ann Moeller on November 22, 1953, in Emporia. They shared their lives and raised their family for fifty-eight years until her death on December 27, 2011. Al then married Lois Clara Bartley on December 28, 2012, in Wamego. They enjoyed traveling and living their elder years together until her death on August 17, 2024.

Al is survived by his children: Lynn Spencer (Donna), Bentonville, Arkansas, Deborah Bearnes (Tim), Laurel, Nebraska, and Carmen Autry (Steve), Chattanooga, Tennessee; his step-sons, Stanley Bartley, Council Grove, Kansas and Jon Bartley, Wamego, Kansas; his grandchildren; Rachel Werner (Daryl), Syracuse, Nebraska, Rebecca Kirby (Kevin), Bentonville, Arkansas, Elizabeth Bauer (Jacob), Kremmling, Colorado, Joel Spencer (Jill), Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Brennen Bearnes (Toni Klopfenstein), Lyons, Colorado, CarolAnn LeMasurier (Ben), Ward, Colorado, Heather Bearnes, Boulder, Colorado, and Heath Autry (Megan), Chattanooga, Tennessee; His great-Grandchildren, Haleigh, Spencer, Millie, Blair, Kennedy, Macy, Braxton, Gage, Logan, Liam, Megan, Blake, Reagan, Ruth, Corinne, Emory and Esther; as well as his sister, Doris Danford (Ed), Strong City, Kansas. Al is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Walter, Alta, Mary, Jack and Juanita.

A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton, Kansas. Burial will follow at St. Luke Lutheran North Cemetery. A visitation will be Tuesday evening, June 3, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:30 at Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.
