Beulah Mae Herbic

Beulah Mae Herbic, 98, of Alma, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Villa St. Francis in Olathe, Kansas.

Beulah was born on October 18, 1927, in Council Grove Kansas, the daughter of Herman and Ella (Reuter) Banka. Beulah’s mother died November 5th, just weeks after her birth, and she was legally adopted by her maternal grandparents, Henry and Pauline Reuter. She was raised on a farm 7.5 miles west of Alma. She attended grade school in a native stone country schoolhouse and in good weather would walk 2.5 miles to school. She then attended Alma High School.

Beulah married Glenn Arthur Herbic on July 3, 1946, in Alma. They raised their family and shared their lives together for over 75 years until Glenn’s death on January 2, 2022. Glenn worked primarily for the Rock Island railroad and Beulah moved with her family to where the job led them. They lived in Belleville, Kansas until 1980 and then moved to McFarland and then to Alma.

Beulah’s life was her family, friends and her faith in God. While living in Belleville, she was an active member of St. Edward Catholic Church and the Needle Craft Club. As well as a diligent homemaker, Beulah worked for Scott Specialties as a seamstress and also cooked at the Junior High School. After moving to Alma, she continued her love for her faith and was active at Holy Family Catholic Church and in the Altar Society. For many years she was the Sacristan at the church. Beulah was a volunteer at the Alma Manor and enjoyed her friends in the coffee clutch at the Alma Bakery. She was a beautiful seamstress and in her earlier years made her own clothes, her daughter’s doll clothes, and beautiful handmade afghans and quilts for all her children and grandchildren. She made delicious jams and jellies as well and canned fruits and vegetables. Beulah was known for her wonderful meals and amazing pies. She loved tending to her flowers and garden and enjoyed watching the birds and loved her cats.

Beulah is survived by her children; Stan Herbic (Susan), Overland Park, Jim Herbic (Lynn), Salina, Patty Lovgren (Burt), Manhattan, and Bob Herbic (Peggy), Olathe; her twelve grandchildren, Mark Herbic, Charley Herbic, Christina Nance, Jessica Simshauser, Jeremy Herbic, Joshua Mall, Mariah Calovich, Kaylie Lovgren, Jack Herbic, Molly Clark, Andrew Herbic, and Michael Herbic. She was also blessed with fifteen great-grandchildren, Nola Herbic, Heidi Nance, Owen Nance, Wyatt Simshauser, Connor Bagwell, Emerson Herbic, Willow Herbic, Autumn Herbic, Marley Calovich, Kaden Williams, Taylor Williams, Everett Clark, Clara Clark, Rosie Herbic, and William Herbic. Beulah was preceded in death by her parents and her great-granddaughter, Madie Mall.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Alma. Burial will follow at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 9:30 am until 10:30 am, and a Rosary prayer service will be held at 10:30 am. They suggest memorial contributions to Holy Family Catholic Church or Wabaunsee County Historical Society and Museum, and those may be sent in care of Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home.
