Deloris Carol Matzke (Werth), 89, from Westmoreland, Kansas, passed away peacefully at her home on February 6, 2026, surrounded by the comforting presence of her beloved husband, Alvin Matzke.
Deloris was born on May 20, 1936, in Hampton, Nebraska, to parents Walter and Evelyn (Urwiller) Werth. She married her first husband, Arthur Kirk, in 1954, and from this marriage, they had four children: Brenda, Jaen, Bradley, and Jeff. Arthur passed away in 1984.
Deloris married Alvin Matzke in December 1989 in Atlanta, Georgia. Deloris and Alvin shared a wonderful partnership, and they created a welcoming home filled with laughter and love. Deloris was a committed farm wife, dedicated to caring for her family and home, but also working as a housekeeper for her neighbors. She was a nurturing caregiver to many, tending to her parents, son, and husband through various life challenges.
Deloris was a woman of many talents; she loved to cook, bake, and crochet. She was known as the "thrift store queen," delighting in finding a good deal. She enjoyed listening to Mollie B's polka music and the voice of Irish singer Daniel O'Donnell.
Deloris is survived by her devoted husband Alvin Matzke; children Brenda (Larry) Roach of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Bradley Kirk of Fernandina Beach, Florida; step-children Brian (Marcie) Matzke of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Brent (Marcie) Matzke of Westmoreland, Kansas, and Jennifer (Larry) Davis of Wamego, Kansas; along with 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward.
Deloris has been preceded in death by her parents, first husband Arthur Kirk, son Jeff Kirk, daughter Jaen Plummer, grandson Orry Kirk, great-grandson Bentley Reed, and sister and brother-in-law Joyce and LeRoy Hongsermeier.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 129 Railroad St., Wheaton, Kansas, with Pastor Terry DeGiovanni officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Fox Cemetery, Wheaton.
Family will greet friends at St. Luke Lutheran Church on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the funeral service.
