Dolores Ann Ebert, 90, of rural Flush, Kansas, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Dolores was a life-long resident of the community.
Dolores was born on February 15, 1936, on the family farm, the daughter of Isadore and Loretta (Umscheid) Straub. She attended grade school and high school at Flush, graduating in 1954. After high school, Dolores worked at Duckwalls in Manhattan until her marriage.
She married Paul C. Ebert on April 24, 1956, in Flush. They shared their lives together for forty-two years, working their farm and raising their family. Paul preceded her in death on May 14, 1998.
Dolores was an active partner in the family business. She not only cared for her home and family, but also actively participated in the farming operation, doing whatever was needed including driving the grain truck, feeding the crew, and checking cattle. She continued to work well into her eighties, doing housekeeping, ironing, and shredding for others, especially her beloved Hostetler family. She was referred to as “St. Dolores” by many she worked for. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the church’s Altar Society, including serving a term as Co-Chair. Her faith was very important to her and being a devout mother, she lived her life and raised her children accordingly. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Dolores loved watching game shows and sports of any kind, as well as embroidering, gardening, and canning in her younger years. Her family was her passion, and she especially loved the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dolores was extremely close to her siblings, especially her two brothers, Earl and Kenny, who were always by her side at her grandchildren's school/sporting events or on their McDonalds trips. Dolores was a wonderful cook and baker being best known for her potato salad, corn fritters, and cookies. Dolores was affectionately considered the "Gravy Queen" of the Flush Church picnic dinners. She hosted Christmas for the Straub side of the family for more than 20 years creating wonderful memories.
Dolores was well loved in the community, and was very proud to have received 93 birthday cards for her recent 90th birthday. Dolores’ legacy of love, kindness, and deep devotion to her faith and family will live on in the hearts of all those who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but forever remembered.
Dolores is survived by her children; Beverly Ebert Rosell (Jeff), Westmoreland, Gary Ebert (Robin), Flush, Timothy Ebert (Lisa), Flush, Alan Ebert (D’Ann), Topeka, and Sandra Homeier (Travis), Manhattan; her grandchildren, Sarah Derley (Royce), Lewis, Shaun Quigley (Erin), Louisburg, Danielle Sumners (Robert), Flush, Chanel Ebert (Robert Murchison), Willow, Alaska, Chyann Franklin (Brian), DeSoto, Emma Ebert, Manhattan, Zachary Ebert (Kirsten), Topeka, and Shelby Ebert (Cale Savage), Topeka.
