Donald William Hunt, 81, of Wamego, Kansas, formerly of Peoria, Illinois, passed away on Sunday (December 3, 2023) at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
Born December 11, 1941 in Peoria, Illinois, Don was the son of Isaac William and Anna Mae (Helms) Hunt. He married Darlene Kay Butler on April 8, 1961 in Peoria. She survives.
Don was of the Baptist Faith. He enjoyed working with his hand, including leather work and was an accomplished builder and carpenter. Don built two of their family homes and made the custom cabinets for them. He enjoyed customizing cars and was proud of his 1951 Mercury. He and Darlene were members of car clubs, including Lincoln Land Kustoms and Kustom Kemps of America. He and Darlene enjoyed traveling to car shows.
Don was employed for 47 years as a shipper with Keystone Steel & Wire until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene; a daughter, Donita Wagenschutz (Stephen); a daughter in law, Carol Hunt of Wamego, KS; five grandchildren, Kyle Wagenschutz, Kent Wagenschutz (Nikki), Kurt Wagenschutz, Kyle Morgan and Dustin Morgan (Megan); seven great grandchildren, Ethan, Adelyn and Wren Wagenschutz and Pemberly, Ava, Clara and Liam Morgan; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hunt was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Daniel William Hunt.
Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.
Private family services will be held.
