Isabel Ann Winterman, 93, of rural Westmoreland, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Stormont -Vail Health Center in Topeka. She was a life-long resident of the community.
Isabel was born on November 4, 1931, in rural Flush, the daughter of Lawrence John and Barbara (Rebitzer) Umscheid. She attended local grade school and graduated from Flush High School.
Isabel worked as a beautician in her own home shop for several years before working as the head cook at Sale Barn Cafe and then worked in the kitchen for the St. George Elementary School until her retirement. She found joy in mowing and tending to her yard. Isabel was a seamstress and in her earlier years made most of her own clothing. She was known for being able to accomplish anything that she set her mind too. Isabel also enjoyed playing cards, board games and jigsaw puzzles. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Flush.
Isabel married Henry B. Winterman on November 11, 1951, at Flush. For forty-five years they lived their lives together until his death on April 3, 1997.
Isabel is survived by her son, Arthur Winterman (Anna) of Westmoreland; her grandchildren, Aaron Winterman, Westmoreland and Jessica Cleavenger (Karl), Leavenworth; two great-grandchildren, Eli and Lucas Cleavenger; and her sister, Genny Diederich, Wamego.
Isabel was preceded in death by her parents and her four sisters; Irene Mills, Helen Brazzle, Angie Brazzle and Betty J. Duncan; and six brothers, Wayne Umscheid, Don Umscheid, Lawrence Umscheid, Jr., Cletus Umscheid, Carl Umscheid, and Miney Umscheid.
A Rosary prayer service will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, July 5, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 5, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Flush. Father Mike Peterson will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
