Ivan Richard Seele, 94, of rural Paxico, Kansas, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2026, while fixing fence on his farm. He was a life-long member of the community.

Ivan was born December 14, 1931, on the family farm in rural Belvue, the son of George and Leona (Hafenstein) Seele. He attended the Greenwood country school.

Ivan served in the United States Army. He earned a Specialist 3 rank and served as a cook while stationed in Alaska. After returning home, he spent the rest of his adult life in agriculture, mostly as a dairy farmer. He also was an auctioneer and ran Seele Auction and worked with the Wabaunsee County Rural Water District #2.

He married Lora “Jeanie” Breymeyer on February 22, 1954, at Wells Creek. For sixty-nine years they shared their lives, working their farm and raising their family. Jeanie preceded him in death on January 30, 2023.

Ivan was a member of Immanuel Faith Community Church at Wells Creek and the American Legion. He was also active with the Honor Flight Network. He enjoyed many different activities; fishing, playing cards and dominos, babysitting the grandchildren and attending their activities. He was an active member of the local DHIA (Dairy Herd Improvement Association) and also served as a statewide officer. In general, Ivan loved his farm, his family and had a servant’s heart for his community.

He is survived by his children; Susan Bronaugh, St. Marys, Vicky Hurla (Roy), Paxico, and Connie Lannan (Paul), Maple Hill, as well as his daughter-in-law, Sue Seele, Maple Hill; his grandchildren, Paul Brase (Jenny), Jared Bronaugh (Melissa), Shane Hurla (Cheryl), Steven Hurla (Heather), Cody Lannan, Kevin Seele (Amanda),

Sheri Auten (Gar), Melissa Josenberger (Dionandre), Renee Spellman (Jason), Mandy Floersch (Austin), Amber Wick (Ray) & Deanne Grant (Brandon): thirty-seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. His is also survived by his siblings, Marcella Lundin, Karen Olson, and Tom Seele. Ivan was preceded in death by parents; his son, Larry Seele, his granddaughter, Jennifer Hurla, and his siblings, Melvin, Leroy, Larry, Lloyd, and Diane.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Immanuel Faith Community Church, Wells Creek, Burial and military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Ivan will lie-in-state, on Wednesday, beginning at 3:00 pm, at Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. They suggest memorial contributions to Immanuel Faith Community Church or the Honor Flight Network, and those may be sent in care of the funeral home.
