Jason Whayne Moore

Jason Whayne Moore - beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend - passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, at age 55. He had been a member of the Wamego community since moving from Texas in 2010.

Jason was born December 9, 1970, in Beaumont, Texas, the son of Whayne and Barbara (Fontenot) Moore Pfeil. In 1989, he graduated from high school in Ingram, Texas and then attended Texas A&M University where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology.

Jason enjoyed a unique childhood being raised on a girls’ summer camp. Growing up at the Heart O’ the

Hills, he had access to all the camp amenities, Sunday soccer games with staff, hunting the Hill Country, and of course, the girls.

Jason was blessed with tremendous athleticism and succeeded in sports from a young age. Opposing coaches had their hands full when playing against Jason’s team on Friday nights. One coach was quoted saying, “To beat Ingram, you must stop Moore!” His bazooka arm and punting skills gave him the opportunity to continue to play football at Texas A&M.

Jason initially worked as an English teacher and coach. He later transitioned into a career in Human Resources. After moving to Kansas, he worked at Purple Wave in Manhattan and Bluestem Electric in Wamego. Jason loved visiting with people and had a knack for making folks feel comfortable when talking about their lives. He truly cared about getting the right person in the right role.

Jason married Roshelle Gentz on June 1, 1996, in Dallas, Texas. They lived their lives together for thirty years as they raised their sons, Caden, Callan, and Caleb. Jason enjoyed coaching his sons in sports, especially soccer. Hiking, fishing, biking, riding ATVs, and pickup football games in the yard were all activities Jason loved doing with his family. Reading to his sons each night, he discovered his own love of reading and soon had a stack of books by his bed. Like his dad, Jason was quite artistic and displayed this talent when he decorated birthday cakes for his boys. Family was very important to him. He cherished the time he could spend with his extended family at Pfeil Ranch family reunions and days spent on Roshelle’s family farm near Herington. He took great pleasure in his quiet, early morning walks with Clementine, the family labrador.

Jason was very involved with the Wamego Chamber of Commerce and served a term as president. He volunteered his time for various chamber activities, but he truly loved being a member of the Pyro Crew. In the beginning, Jason thought he was just joining a group of guys to shoot off fireworks. However, he quickly realized he had been welcomed into a band of brothers who encouraged, supported, and loved one another as lifelong friends.

While living in Fort Worth, Jason’s personal path to faith was ignited by two close co-workers. He began to read and study the Bible on a consistent basis. His confidence and belief in God continued to grow and he put it to work becoming a church youth group leader and co-leader of a men’s Bible study. Many people benefited from quiet conversations where Jason shared his beliefs and experiences. He often said, “set your values on God and not on this world.” His faith was inspiring to those around him and was a source of strength and comfort that sustained him through the difficult days of his disease.

Jason was a gentle, unassuming man who was generous in all ways. His greatest joy was being a dad to his three sons. Jason will be missed by all who knew him and remain forever in our hearts.

Jason was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Roshelle and sons, Caden, Callan and Caleb, all of Wamego; his siblings, Margaret Docter (David), New Braunfels, Texas, Christine Underhill (Bart), Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, Jennifer Griffin (Scott), Bulverde, Texas, and his step-sister, Vickie Quintanilla (Jaime), Kendalia, Texas.

A memorial service of Jason’s life will be held on Friday, June 26th, 3:00 pm, at Trinity Baptist in Wamego. Meal following at Cross Point Community Church. His family suggests memorial contributions to Good Samaritan - Valley Vista Wamego, Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice, or the Wamego Public Library and those may be left with Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home, P.
