John C. Shumaker

  John C. Shumaker, 76, from Alma, Kansas, passed away on June 14, 2025, at Midland Hospice Care in Topeka, Kansas, after a long battle with kidney and bladder cancer.

  John was born on April 7, 1949, in Wamego, Kansas, to parents Edward and Dorothy (Hall) Shumaker. John married Ona Gehring on September 22, 1989, in Westmoreland, Kansas.

  John worked as a machine operator at Gideon Sawmill before taking early retirement due to an injury. He had a passion for woodworking and enjoyed spending time in his home shop, where he crafted many items, including ornate boxes and keychains. His love for woodworking extended beyond his projects, as he traveled with his mother to showcase their skills.

  He shared a special bond with his father as a rock hound, building one of the largest rock shops in Kansas. Additionally, John found joy and peace in fishing.

  John is survived by his wife, Ona, his son, Roger Shumaker (Brittany), and his grandson, Kayden Shumaker. Family will hold a private inurnment to honor his memory.
