Marilyn Ann Simon

Marilyn Ann Simon, 91, passed away Sunday August 30, 2026, at Ascension Via Christi, in Manhattan.

Marilyn Ann Diepenbrock was born June 10, 1935, in Alma, KS to Carl and Florence (Lemon) Diepenbrock. She attended Alma schools and graduated from Alma High School in 1953.

She was joined in marriage to Ray Melvin Simon on June 14, 1953, at St. John Lutheran Church in Alma, KS. To this union, were born 3 children; Linda, Kurt and Richard.

Marilyn was a stay-at-home mother until her children reached school age; then she began her working career as a secretary at St. John Lutheran Church and School, then worked for the Wabaunsee County Treasurer and Clerk’s office, as well as Farm Service Agency in Alma, KS.

She and Ray, together, enjoyed fishing, camping, square dancing, and many other activities with friends and family. Marilyn was an avid quilter and crocheter (of which she donated countless prayer shawls to those in need of them); as well as playing cards and Mahjong with her friends from Alma. Marilyn would always remain vigilant when her sons were around, always teasing her every chance they would get; she thrived on their mischief. Her faith in God was a guiding light in life, and she took joy in attending Bible Breakfast and Sunday Services regularly.

Marilyn will be forever loved and missed by her daughter, Linda Conner of Manhattan, KS, granddaughter Emily Conner of Waterville, KS and great-granddaughter Michalah Piotraschke of Northglenn, CO; and fondly remembered by those friends and family closest to her. She is survived by Jacob Simon and Katie Ferris of Wamego, KS. She was preceded, in death, by her parents, her brother John Diepenbrock, her husband and her sons, Kurt and Richard.

A celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in McFarland, Kansas. Reverend Terry DeGiovanni will be officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. A private inurnment will be held at a future date in Fairview Cemetery.
