Michael J. Newton

  Michael Joseph Newton, of McFarland, Kansas, aged 67, passed away September 9, 2025. He was born in Manhattan, Kansas, on November 23, 2025, to Francis A. and Catherine Lardner Newton.

  Mike attended Alma schools and was a lifelong resident of the area. He enjoyed fishing on Mill Creek and playing guitar, but his biggest love was his chocolate Labrador Retrievers. One large male named “Newt” could often be seen riding shotgun with Mike.

  Mike was predeceased by his parents and one brother-in-law, Matt Verschelden. He is survived by Bill and Beverly Newton of Paxico, Kansas, Jim and Marcia Newton of Alma, Kansas, Mary and Fred Johnson of Wichita, Kansas, George and Janet Newton of Alma, Kansas, and Cathy Verschelden of Fairway, Kansas. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

  He was a friend to all and a stranger to none. The family would like to acknowledge with sincere appreciation the many friends and neighbors who watched over Mike as his health failed.

  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
