Patricia “Patty” Louise Hood, 83, of Wamego, Kansas, died May 4, 2026, at Stormont-Vail Health Center in Topeka. She was a lifelong resident of the community.
Patty was born September 7, 1942, in Westmoreland, the daughter of Aloysius “Bub” and Winifred (Doll), Eckart. She attended St. Bernard Catholic School and graduated in 1960 from Mt. St. Scholastica Academy, in Atchison, Kansas.
Patty worked after high school as a dental assistant, then worked for Balderson’s / Caterpillar in Wamego for over forty years. She started as a secretary and worked up to purchasing agent.
On July 9, 1966, Patty married Robert Joseph “Joe” Hood. The spent almost fifty-nine years of their lives together. He preceded her in death on May 1, 2025.
Patty loved to collect knick-knacks. She had several thousand salt and pepper shakers, as well as plates and colored glass pieces. She loved her collection and loved going to garage sales. Patty played team slow-pitch soft ball well into her sixties. She was an active member of the BPW (Business and Professional Women) and served in several leadership roles.
Patty is survived by her brothers, John Eckart (Sandy), Carmichel, California, Stephen Eckart (Sue), Versailles, Missouri, James Eckart (Betty), Longmont, Colorado, Michael Eckart (Marylou), Lynnwood, Washington, and Benedict Eckart (Jane), Manhattan, and sisters, Sister Rosann Eckart O.S.B., Atchison, Catherine Ukena Manhattan, Mary Wedeking, Lenexa, and Annette Pierce, Wamego, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Theodore Eckart, three brothers-in-law, Barry Pierce, Jerry Ukena, and Jim Wedeking.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, May 11, 2026, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego. Father Mike Peterson will be the Celebrant. Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Flush, Kansas at 1:45 pm.
The family will greet friends prior to Mass beginning at 9:00 am and a Rosary prayer service will be held at 10:30 am. They suggest memorials to the ALS Association and those may be sent in care of Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.campanellastewart.com.
