Terry Truman McDaniel

Terry Truman McDaniel, 62, of Paxico, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday (August 18, 2026) at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

Born November 11, 1963 in Wamego, Kansas, Terry was the son of Harvey Truman and Sharon (Wurtz) McDaniel. He married Denise Michaelis on March 12, 1983 at Trinity Lutheran Church in McFarland.

Terry served his country in the Army National Guard from 1982 to 1997 when he transferred to the Air National Guard. He retired as a Technical Sergeant in 2005, serving for nearly 23 years.

A 1983 graduate of Wabaunsee High School, Terry was employed as Superintendent for the City of McFarland for several years. He later was employed in Dining & Housing Maintenance for Kansas State University until his retirement.

Terry enjoyed shooting, going to concerts and gun shows with his family, woodworking, shopping and loved attending the Renaissance Festival in Kansas City, going multiple times a year for many years. He had a special place in his heart for all animals, keeping pets ranging from turtles and rats to ferrets and iguanas. He was a member of the N.R.A. and was active with his community, teaching shooting sports with 4-H and volunteering with the Wabaunsee Fire District No. 7.

Survivors include his wife, Denise; a son, Derek McDaniel of Alma, KS; three daughters, April Murphy (Keith) of McFarland, KS, Amanda Woods (Josh) of Cabot, AR and Abigail McDaniel of Paxico, KS; his mother, Sharon McDaniel of Topeka, KS; seven grandchildren, Justice Houston, Finnegan McDaniel, Danielle Murphy, Blake Murphy, Kambrie Woods, Kaylee Woods and Klara Woods; two brothers, Jerry McDaniel (Tamara) of Georgetown, Guyana and Larry McDaniel of Topeka, KS; two sisters, Kim McDaniel of Topeka, KS and Tammy McDaniel of Paxico, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

Terry was preceded in death by his father, Harvey.

Memorial services will be held Saturday morning (August 29, 2026) at 10:30 at Trinity Lutheran Church in McFarland, Kansas with Rev. Terry DeGiovanni officiating. Burial with Military Honors by the Air National Guard, Alma American Legion Post No. 32 and the American Legion Riders will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery near Paxico, Kansas.

The family will greet friends on Saturday morning (August 29, 2026) from 9:30 until the time of services at Trinity Lutheran Church.
