Treva Joye Mumaw, 92, from Belvue, Kansas, passed away at her home surrounded by the love of her family on September 30, 2025.
Treva was born on August 15, 1933, in Havensville, Kansas, to parents James Martin and Veda Mae (Channel) Armstrong. After graduating from Havensville High School in 1952, she married Lyle Everett Mumaw on December 28, 1952, at Bucks Grove Church in Soldier, Kansas. They spent 54 joy-filled years together before his passing in 2007.
Treva dedicated her life to creating a home where everyone felt welcome. Her legendary homemade bread, baked from her sister Janice's cherished 50-year-old starter recipe, became a symbol of her nurturing spirit. Family fondly remembers the warm hugs that accompanied every slice, as well as her homemade cookies, breads, caramel popcorn, and candies she made throughout the years. Whenever family or friends would visit, many times they were sent home with some type of homemade goodie. During Christmas, she delighted her husband's colleagues at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka, Kansas, with her scrumptious creations.
As a devoted homemaker, Treva built a life rich with love, laughter, and the constant presence of family. Even after her children grew up and began their own journeys, she continued to contribute to the family by working in various roles, including waitressing at the Cottage Inn in Belvue and cooking at the Trade Winds Supper Club in Wamego, Kansas, owned by her sister Janice Chrest.
Treva was an avid supporter of her children and grandchildren, rarely missing their wrestling, baseball, volleyball, football, or weightlifting events. She was affectionately known as "Tudy", "Mama Tudy", "Mama Moo", and "Treva Joye” to family and many friends over the years. She volunteered countless hours at Harvesters, the Columbian Theater, and the Senior Center in Wamego. She was the caretaker not only of her family but also of friends, whether it was babysitting or chauffeuring a friend to a doctor's appointment. She was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star and collaborated with others at the Belvue United Methodist Church, often lending her helping hand in the kitchen for soup suppers. Her commitment to healthy living was evident throughout her life; she was involved in TOPPS and walked many miles as well as riding her bicycle, remaining active well into her later years.
Treva's adventurous spirit took her on travels with her husband, who shared her love for exploration, including frequent trips to Colorado and Branson with family and friends. They also made trips to Delaware and California to visit family. After Lyle's passing, Treva had the opportunity to make a remarkable trip to Australia and Hawaii to support her grandson Dylan in his wrestling endeavors. She enjoyed taking bus trips with her family and friends from several of the local Bank Clubs. She spent countless days gardening beautiful flowers and vegetables, bird watching, and solving word searches and puzzles.
Treva leaves behind her loving family. Treva is survived by her siblings, Janice Chrest and Phillip Armstrong; children, Kyle (Laura) Mumaw from Louisville, Kansas, Leann DeLong from Topeka, Kansas, and Curtis Mumaw from Topeka, Kansas; grandchildren, Carlie (Kyle) Sommer, Kyle (T.J.)
